My little attempt at making the world greener......a couple of weeks ago I picked up some of the reusable green bags at the commissary for a mere $0.70 a piece. I bought ten thinking it would be enough. (A little commissary FYI: the baggers work for tips. I usually tip based on how many bags I have.) Even though these bags are about the size of a brown paper bag, I still ended up with about ten plastic bags.
So this weekend when I went grocery shopping, I ended up with only TWO plastic bags! We usually have no less than twenty bags. Since I go shopping every other week, this is a huge dent in how many bags are coming into our home! They did wrap the meat in plastic before they put them in the bags. I am thankful for that though.
I need to look into some reusable fruit and veggies bags now.

This is a great easy read if you are into fluff. I laughed so much while reading this. While reading this book, I could easily imagine myself going through the same stages of life. The author must be close to my age (late 30's....at least for a few more months!) I will definitely pick up her next book!

I love my resuable bags - just took me a little while to figure out I have to go put them right back in the car or I will get to the store without the. :)
Or better yet, re useable fruits & veggies...ha ha, I crack myself up.
I haven't taken this step yet. We switched to cloth napkins this month though, and while I haven't noticed a difference in the laundry, I have noticed how special I feel using cloth napkins to eat dinner. Like my house is now a fancy restaurant.
I had the same issue with my mesh bags! They stretch pretty well, but I ended up with a ton of plastic bags--I'm off to buy a few more.
As for the book--I am always looking for good fluff. That's why I love marshmallows!

I have been wanting to buy some reusable bags.
I am so buying the bags next time I go to Kroger. How can I not? Plus, I'm taking all the nasty plastic bags back to their recycle bin. I'm so over plastic bags! Great post, tommie!

Congrats on reducing your bags - I'm really trying to do that as well - I tell the baggers just to throw it all in the same one - I'm not fussy.

I have a been collecting a great assortment of really cute reusable grocery bags....got some at Trader Joes, that my daughters keep trying to haul off and use as book bags for school because they are so fun.
I need to do better, I have used canvas bags for a long time but I need to work on the "regular" shopping (i.e. dept store)

We got some from Whole Foods a while back, but we seem to have a block on returning them to the car so that we can reuse them.
But, on the other hand, we do use those plastic grocery bags for picking up after our dogs on walks. So that's kinda green???

I love those bags - those are exactly what I am looking for and at .70 each - WOW. Maybe I can get my mom or some friends I know that shop at the commisary to pick me up some - if they have them here -those are great.

We re-use the plastic ones for so many things here. The ones that don't get used get recycled (our grocery store is great for that). I still use a combo of reusable and plastic though.
