Photohunt: bridge

Totally shamelessly reusing a pic AND post I have already done. But when I saw the theme was bridge....this is the shot and thoughts I thought of.....

This past summer we had a hectic transition from TX to KY. This picture was taken during the month long stint of living with my mom. There is this awesome park in the big town next to my podunk America town. Totally worth the drive into town for a little fun. This park had towers, bridges, swings, things to climb on, ramps to run down, and just about every fun thing a kid could have fun. Will would try to walk down this rope bridge every single time we went. Will is more cautious than Livi. But finally by the end of our month in OK, he mastered this bridge. He would practically run down the little ropes.

Just like this rope bridge, we have been in KY for almost three months now. He is excelling at preschool. He is starting to read. He is excited about learning addition. He is making friends. He loves the days when he they don't have time to finish some work. Then he gets to finish "homework". Seeing him master these basic skills is so exciting!

He is mastering just one more rope bridge in his little life. That is what makes me excited!

Photohunt: chipped

While Husband was deployed, one of the few goals I had was to NOT go to the emergency room.....well, we almost didn't make it. While we were outside playing, Will comes up to me, "I hurp my poop."

Me: "What? You pooped! "

Will: (his lips curled around his teeth): "No, I hurt my pooth."

Me: finally understanding lip-curled-over-the-teeth speak: "You hurt your tooth? Let me see." There is no blood and he is speaking, so I thinking he just bumped it.

Will, showing me the DENT on the handlebars of his bike: "My mouth hit it here!"

Me, feeling a tad more worried after seeing tooth dust on the bar...."Yep, buddy, you chipped it."

Just the tiniest bit chipped off the corner of his tooth. He was so worried the other kids would laugh at him at school. But by the next morning he was fine.

Whew hoo....another crisis averted....move on grasshopper, at that point we only had 17 more days to go!

photohunt :hope

I can only hope that these cookies taste good. My mother-in-law was so excited to make these with the kids. They are really a four part cookie....the base, a top with the circle cut out, a jelly filling, and the powdered sugar. The kids loved sprinking the sugar on them. I can only hope they tasted good. Since I have a nut allergy, I couldn't even taste them....apparently the cookies are made of almond paste. ooops!

Photohunt: wide open skies

Photohunt is hosted by TNchick
This past Friday we woke up to cloudy skies, rain, and melting snow and ice. So by early after noon it was kind of nice to see the bluest of skies I have ever seen. There were white fluffy clouds in the wide open skies. Very nice end to a week that even included two snow days of missed school.
Happy Saturday, y'all!

Photohunt: reflection

Photohunt is hosted by TNchick

Digging into my archives for this shot....but it remains one of my favorites. We went on an RV trip with friends. Will was about 4 months old. He was still nursing every four hours or so. The people we shared the RV with had two kids under three. Oh yeah...fun times. This picture was taken in Homer, Alaska.

The same Homer as the Poopdeck Ave. Alaska remains one of my favorite places we have lived. I even have thirteen favorite things about living in Alaska. I think the thing I liked best about living there was the friendships we formed there. Everyone was thousands of miles from family and friends. So, you either got involved with the battalion or you whined and griped for three years. We made some awesome friends. The kind you can call at the drop of a hat and pick right back up where you left off.

The sky was so blue as the kids wrapped up Trick or Treating last night. They rarely are up this late to see the blue sky turning a gorgeous salmon pink color.

Photohunt: family

The kids are so ex-cite-tic (Livi speak for excited) to have Grandma and Grandpa here this weekend for her birthday. Husband arranged to have the day off....so we headed over to the pumpkin patch.
This is a little local patch. The kids' preschool went there on Wed. I didn't want to make the kids stray from their class to get pics, so I knew I wanted to come back.

Livi found this little baby pumpkin ....just a peek into her jibber jabber: "Oh, little orange punkin you are the cutest sweetest little thing. You won't be a decoration, no sirreee, you will sit right here and I will show you love. Love...what is love? Love is not having to be a punkin muffin, Love is just sitting here and being cute!" Yes, she is only four...kind of scary how much she talks...and the rambling she does!

Will headed straight for the hale bale maze. He would try to confuse himself and go ways that didn't make sense. When Grandpa tried to move a bale, he was like, "uuuggghhhh, Grandpa it doesn't go there!" Just a little note: it was maybe 60ish degrees when we left the house this morning....when Will puts on his hat. In Will-world....if you put on the hat when you leave the house.....it stays on the entire time. EVEN if it gets up to warmer temps....

This is my little family trip to the punkin patch....happy hunting y'all!

Photohunt: It's a SAD sad world

Okay, this picture totally cracks me up every time I see it. We had just moved to Leavenworth at the time. It was just a little walk around the ball park to a little duck pond that was on the golf course. We thought it would be fun to use some stale hamburger buns to feed the ducks. We stopped on the dock to watch some kids fish, then walked around to the other side to see the ducks.

Husband pulled the first bun out of the baggie and tossed a piece to the ducks (thinking Will would do the same). Will flipped out! In his best whiny two year old voice, he hollered, "MY bread!" He was ready to go dive into the water to get his bread back. I was lucky enough to catch this Kodak moment.

Needless to say, we didn't feed the ducks any more of HIS bread. He ate the rest of it on the walk back to the house. It took a few more trips to watch the ducks before he would feed them.
This is a "vintage" Tuesday Update post from Feb '07. But I think of it when I think of sad.

While I can't imagine living at Poopdeck and anything, this is a true blue living sign we saw in Homer, Alaska.

So I could have had any one of these shots:

Photohunt: Wild

hosted by the wonderful TN chick ....This week the theme is wild.

Meet Einstein....no, he is not a wild cat, just the neighbor's cat. But he likes to lie in the shade of the tree in our front yard. Notice the little mums in front of him....Livi was giving them to him to make his happy. Still not that wild....but take a look at him from the front:

Isn't that "wild"? This cat has two colors of eyes. The blue one reminds me of Will...he has that color in his eyes. But the amber one reminds me of Livi....she has streaks of that color in her eyes. Einstein: the wild eye cat.
Happy hunting......next week's theme: road

Isn't it Beautiful

homecoming 147, originally uploaded by tommiea1.

Photohunters is hosted by TN Chick. Next week's theme: string(s)
It was simply beautiful to see my husband being reunited with our kids after being gone for 15 months during a deployment. All those little things that make a woman crazy-the toilet seat not being in the correct place, clothes not being put where they belong, teabags all over the place. Those things just fall by the wayside when it all comes down to it.......the most important thing is seeing a daddy with his kids! That to me is beautiful!

Photohunt: unique/funny signs

I pass this place whenever I get a hankering for a great latte that isn't from the big Star. It always makes me laugh! So when I saw "unique/funny signs" as an upcoming challenge, I knew I had to trek over there to take a picture.

Mind you, this is not in the best part of town. When I was trying find a shortcut out of this area, I called my friend Phyllis. She lived here forever and knows all the shortcuts. She told me she was in a Subway near here when it was robbed at gun point. Nice.....here I am with my mongo camera trying to get a funny sign and nearby robbers hang out.

So what brought me to the ghetto......GOLD TEETH RILLISTS???

GOLD TEETH RILLISTS??? Dang, not the shot I wanted I drive around the block and get a bit closer and a better shot. I am in a parking lot across the street using zoom! Oh, 7 GOLD TEETH GRILLISTS. See, isn't that hilairious?? Or is it just funny to me in my sleep-deprived state before I get my little cup of caffeinated love? But even better....oh yeah, it gets better.

You need them in ONE DAY.....they offer them 1 DAY SERVICE. So get that party started, I'll be there with my gold grill.
