Photostory Friday.....feeling blue about my berries

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

My last little bit of summer is gone. We spent so much time picking these blueberries. Grabbing a bucket, we would head out to the bushes. My father-in-law planted them when they first moved into their home. There are several varieties so they ripen at different times. I think Livi ate as many as she picked. You could tell when her little belly would get full, because then the bucket would start to get full!

We picked these blueberries while we shacked up with my in-laws while we were in transition from Texas to Kentucky. We have savored these for as long as we can. We made blueberry-yogurt muffins. Husband makes Livi blueberry pancakes every Sunday. We sprinkle them on cereal. But they are gone.....oh well. We now live close enough to go next summer and pick twice as many...no, wait...if two gallon baggies only lasted three months, then I will need 8 bags. Dang, that is a lot of picking! But so worth it to have fresh berries all year long.

**the baggies were only half full....so technically it was only a gallon***

Happy Thursday, y'all. So what is your favorite thing to make with blueberries?

Blueberry waffles, hands down! It's tough to watch those last little bits of summer go away -- though I'm glad I don't have to mow the grass anymore.

Oh yummie! We rarely have blueberries, they are only on the shelves for a short period of time, and then they are usually sooo expensive.
Love them!

oh yum--I love blueberries! I make smoothies with them most often, but I also love pancakes and waffles, and just eating them plain like Livi!

Oh those are SO beautiful! I can eat blueberries in ANYTHING (from ice cream to pie to cereal to pancakes).

And smoothies, oh they are THE BEST.

PIE. We ate so many blueberry pies this summer.

My berries have been gone for a while (we have just one bush), but the leaves are now turning the most beautiful fall colors. In the land of redwoods and oaks, we take any fall color we can get.

yum! But if I can choose, I pick huckleberries over blueberries

I used to go to Michigan every summer and bring home 5 pounds of blueberries that we had picked! They tasted so good and usually lasted around 8 months! What I wouldn't give for some freshly picked blueberries! I won't eat them any other way!

Blueberry strudel! My fave and Ian's too. :)

I put them on a jelly roll pan, freeze them and then put them in a seal-a-meal bag. I always run out too before the season comes again.

OK, TMI, I know, but since I'm a little farther up north we are sticking to blueberry naked juice stuff.
ANYWAY, great PSF! I love all things blueberry!

We have two blueberry bushes, but they were not producing very well. So this fall we transplanted them to a new location that has plenty of fertilizer from our horses! Hopefully we will be more successful next year!

sigh. This happened to us with the last frost. I covered our soybeans and our basil but the winds were so ferocious that the covers blew off. Now everything dead. Such a sad moment.

But spring will come again!
