Thursday 13.......#18......thirteen things I bought at the commissary

Thirteen things I bought at the commissary since the Husband is coming home before I go again!!

1. Pert-his favorite shampoo...scary, I know.

2. boy-smelling body wash.....I don't think he would like to smell like sun-ripened raspberries.

3. boy deodorant - okay I didn't get this, but I need to....I couldn't remember what kind he uses....how sad is that?

4. boy razors- again, didn't get these, but need to...another one I couldn't remember.

5. some 'helpers' ...let your mind wander...just let me say we don't need any more kids in about nine months! (Is this TMI??) Have I just crossed the line on my G-rated blog? I am sure there is already going to be a baby boom in this town, there always is when the guys get back from a deployment.

6. chips

7. hot salsa, oh wait, I think I got medium...I thought I would break him into the hot stuff slowly.

6. beer

7. bratwurst

8. junk cookies, like those Pepperidge Farms chocolate with macadamia nuts. ( I always get the ones I can't eat, so I won't even be tempted!!)

9. real Dr Pepper

10. granola cereal

11. real coffee ( I accidentally bought some half caffeinated early on, and never switched back) With as much coffee as he drinks, I am sure he would notice!

12. honey roasted peanuts.....he likes those when we go on road trips!

and finally the best one of all was from his parents.......

13. Omaha Steaks came in the mail for him yesterday from his parents. If you have never had these, they are very much splurge worthy!! Like the box says, it is truly the world's finest beef. One of Husband's favorite meals are these steaks with roasted peppers and olives......it really is a little piece of heaven in your mouth. After eating at the mess hall, ooops wait, dining facility food for the last fifteen months, a superior piece of beef is well deserved.

ps, the peppers are sauteed with a little garlic, then tossed with olives that have been simmered with broth, balsamic vinegar and oregano.....then you combine the peppers and olives with a bit of butter to reduce to a glaze.. It really is a wonderful relish on top of great steak. This recipe is from a Charleston cookbook we got on our honeymoon.
***Here is the recipe****
*Roast 2 bell peppers (1 red, 1 yellow) under broiler until blackened on all sides.
*Put in a paper bag for 15 minutes.
*Peel, stem, and seed the peppers, then cut into stripes.
*Heat 1/2 T. vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat.
*Add peppers and 3 large minced garlic cloves and cook 30 seconds.
* add 2/3 c. chicken broth, 1/3 c. Kalamata olives, and 2 t.balsamic vinegar; boil about 8 minutes, until liquid is reduced to a glaze.
*Stir in 2T of butter until it melts.

*Spoon over steaks (grilled or pan fried....however you like them)

We love this with a Chateau St. Jean Merlot....enjoy!

I know you are getting so excited!

I remember when son-in-law was on the way home. Daughter was living with us, 9 months pregs, and could hardly wait. It carried over to the rest of us too!!! We had the funniest reunion at the airport--I'll have to post that sometime!!

Anyway, ever since then, my heart has gone out to those who patiently await their loved one's return. And I am excited for you and for your children.

May the next few days go by like quicksand---and, when you are finished hugging him for you--please hug him and thank him for me---I appreciate the service he has given so I can enjoy freedom, I appreciate the harm he has suffered so I can be safe. Tell him there are no words that can express the gratitude I feel for what he has given and given up.

And you too sweetie! Enjoy your life as a family!

So sweet...my daughter reads your blog now, over my shoulder ( she's 12) and in the car she said to me , 'I can't wait for 13 days from now.' and I couldn't figure out what she was talking about....When I told her I was stumped, she said that's when Livi's Dad comes home, Mom! She's counting the days too.
