Photostory Friday: Shake your tail feathers

This week I was able to chaperone a field trip to the zoo with Will's class. Just as we entered the zoo, we could hear a peacock....it was hooping and hollaring very close by. You can only imagine how startled eleven four and five year olds were when this beauty swooped down just in front of them. I, myself, didn't realize peacocks could fly! I was hoping he would fan his feathers. But he just walked on by, still rambling his distinct cry.

I didn't know they could fly either!

Too bad he didn't "shake his tail feather!"

Zoo field trips are always so fun!

My brother lived in Thailand and people kept them as pets there. Wouldn't that be fun? Great shot!

I think I would have run the other way screaming.

I'm just like that.

They sit up in trees and scream at us in the park. More than once, Rose has had to chase them back into our zoo. They don't like it much but the zookeepers are glad for their return.

I loved the tiger - wow.

Wow, so pretty! We have lots of peacocks in our zoo too and I have yet to ever seen a fanned tail. Lovely capture and I hope you had a wonderful time!

They are supposedly quite delicious as well. I love the way you made his color just splash out into the picture. Great photo.

Great shot. I love it from behind, shows the great length his tail has. I didn't realize they flew either. Learn something new every day, huh?

oh wow--I didn't know they could fly! I recall some really mean peacocks at the Detroit zoo when I was growing up.

did his cry could a bit like a child say, "help?" that is what they sound like to Sugar and I, and it was a bit distressing to her.

they have the most "ostentatious " flock of feathers in the bird kingdom....they are the national birds of the country I come from, India. We have quite a few of them back there.....i remember while growing up, they would fly and land on our terrace if we'd keep food outside......and we 'd wait for them to fan their feathers....it would be our lucky day if they were happy enough to....:)
